Despite Rockstar Games' silence on the matter, the cat rather seems to be out of the bag about GTA 6 getting its own online component that'll doubtless serve as GTA Online has for GTA 5. Court docs the studio themselves filed as part of the ongoing final hearing in a legal battle over the firings of 34 developers last year are partly to thank, but now so is the boss of streaming platform Twitch just blurting out when he expects GTA 6 to get a big multiplayer bump.
Later today, Max Verstappen will strap on his helmet and take to the track at the Silverstone circuit in England for a rather unusual race. The four-time Formula 1 world champion is recognized as the leading talent of his generation, but unlike some of the legends that have preceded him, Verstappenβs passion for motorsport extends beyond just the rarified world of F1. With apologies to Midweek Motorsport, but if it has wheels and they keep score, odds are good Verstappen's down to race it. So at noon Eastern Time (5 pm BST) today, September 16, Verstappen will slip into something a little more basic: a kart.
Itβs one of 101 identical karts that have been sourced from Eastern Europe for the eventβthe other 100 will be driven by a mix of content creators and Red Bull athletes, all of whom fancy their chances at beating one of the worldβs greatest drivers at his own game. They get a bit of an advantage, all starting ahead of Verstappen. Once he passes another karter, theyβre out of the race, and Verstappen has 30 laps of a purpose-designed layout at Silverstone to get through them all and win.
Other F1 drivers have attempted slightly similar challenges in the pastβAlex Albon raced 25 kids last year, and last month Oliver Bearman raced 50 amateurs. But neither is as high-profile as Verstappen, and neither is facing as much competition.
A few weeks ago, when I spoke with Tim Willits, chief creative officer at Saber Interactive, makers of games like Space Marine 2, SnowRunner, and World War Z, the company was dealing with the shitstorm that ensued from their announcement of Rideshare Stimulator.
Back in October 2025, GTA 6 developers Rockstar fired a group of 34, mostly UK-based employees on a charge of "gross misconduct", alleging that they had risked the leaking of confidential information while posting on a Discord server set up by union organisers. The ousted UK workers and their representatives have since taken Rockstar to court, accusing the company of getting rid of them to stop their union gaining enough members to win official recognition under UK law.
This week, both parties filed opening submissions at an employment tribunal in Glasgow, which Rockstar parent company Take-Two Interactive have emailed to RPS and Game Developer, among others. Taken together, the filings amount to over 100 pages of claims and counterclaims, with thousands of pages of evidence to be discussed in the coming weeks. Amongst other things, the docs give us more sense of events leading up to the dismissals, including the revelation that Rockstar had a mole or "whistleblower" passing them information on the people using the Discord server.
Rockstar Games have issued a statement making clear they're sticking to their guns, as the final hearing in the legal battle between them and a group of former staff they fired last year begins. The hearing's set to run from today, September 10th, until at least October 15th. The Independent Workersβ union of Great Britain (IWGB) and fired staff re-emphasised their stance earlier this week, announcing they'd be hosting a rally ouside the tribunal venue this morning.
The final hearing in the legal battle between a group of former Rockstar workers and the GTA 6 studio over the latter's decision to fire the former last year kicks off this week. It'll get underway on September 10th, and the Independent Workersβ union of Great Britain (IWGB) - who're representing the fired staff - are organising a rally to take place first thing on that opening day.
I can take or leave a majority of Death Stranding's story (BB forever, though), but I gotta give it to Kojima: delivering stuff is fun. There's a genuine complexity to the process of deciding what to pack and how you pack it, making the simple act of delivering something like a pizza legitimately challenging. So I'm quite tickled by the look of Pinetrail, a much less apocalyptic delivery game where you drive a tiny three-wheel rickshaw truck transporting packages across luscious forests and mountains.
The mayor of Miami-Dade, Florida has been pitching Rockstar Games about transforming parts of the county into recreations of areas from Grand Theft Auto 6, in the face of complaints from law enforcement and members of the judiciary. GTA 6 is itself inspired by Miami, so yes, this is one of those "simulation colonising reality" situations. The proposed publicity event would include "an immersive arrival experience" at Miami International Airport. with signs for Vice City and planes coated in GTA 6 livery, together with branded Metromover skytrains and specially designed manhole covers.
It's a predictable bid to snaffle a few of those GTA marketing dollars, while driving up the regional circulation of affluent Vice City nuts. Also predictable: a few people, and specifically the cops, find the idea of their neighbourhood being mocked up to resemble a Grand Theft Auto game problematic. Miami-Dade sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz and commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez have already spoken out against the potential deal, observing in a joint statement that "we should be promoting the Miami-Dade we have worked so hard to build, not a fictional version of our community defined by crime and violence.β
Yep. I know. GTA 6 is still on the list of storied crime games without a PC release date. GTA 5, though, is out on PC and has long been the place folks who love Rockstar's crime sandboxes so much they want to pretend they live in them go for a spot of GTA roleplaying. Rockstar appear to be sticking to Guh Tuh Ah Vuh for that sort of thing in the near future too, since they're currently trumpeting a new version of the modded roleplay servers run by Nopixel Studios.
It's finally here! The preview for that extended look at a crime sim currently without a PC release date! GTA 6, or in the immortal words of Jack Nance, "Grand Theft Auto" [6]. After a long drought of anything actual concrete, we've now been flooded with details, like how it's up to you as to whether protagonists Lucia and Jason stay together or not. But as it turns out, there's some changes coming to the series' namesake: stealing cars.
Well, would you look at that, GTA 6 is a real video game! I'm sure by the time you're reading this you've either watched the Netflix preview, watched someone else watch the Netflix preview, or it's late enough that the full thing is available for the non-Netflix having proletariat. So, how about a few extra details, like a tease about how protagonist Lucia and Jason's relationship works mechanically courtesy of Rockstar co-head Rob Nelson?
I've watched it. The extended look at the game humanity's breath is currently held for. The one that doesn't have a PC release date right now, making it hard to know how to feel about covering it extensively if, say, your job revolves around writing about PC games. For today, I've left those concerns at the door. I've taken in all the extended look had to offer. Honestly, I think I can finally see what all the fuss is about.
If you think the protagonists of Grand Theft Auto 6 look dull as piping hot ditchwater then rejoice, friend, for the game will let you transform these gung-ho sex magnets into weary and despairing zombies, tottering along the shore of Leonida with eyes like sandy latrines and skin like forgotten cheese.
Rockstar Games have put out a statement publicly acknowledging the ongoing GTA 6leaks for the first time. Though they and parent company Take-Two have already gotten the ball rolling on hunting down the leaker, the studio had stayed silent in terms of public-facing comms up until now.
Last week, Rockstar Games' parent company Take-Two were filed subpoenas asking for info from Microsoft and Discord to help uncover the identity of the hacker or hackers behind the ongoing GTA 6 leaks. With clips of the game continuing to hit the net and the potential threat of story spoilers starting to drop soon, it was an understandable request for the company to have made, even if questions could be raised about the amount of data it might give them access to.
One of the two companies subpoenaed, Discord, have now said that as of last night they've yet to be served with any subpoena from Take-Two, and that if/when they are, they'll not comply without first considering the ramifications of doing so.
Well, the chase has begun. Rockstar parent company Take-Two are after the identity of the hacker or hackers behind this week's GTA 6 leak. Having spent a number of days swatting clips with takedowns, while the leakers dumped more and more across the net, Take-Two have filed multiple subpoenas in federal district court asking Microsoft and Discord to share records related to accounts which have been involved in posting and sharing the leaks.
While scammers and other ne'er-do-wells leaning into the allure of playing GTA 6 as part of their efforts to spread malware isn't anything new - cybersecurity companies have been issuing warnings about it for months - there appears to have been an uptick in such behaviour following the latest GTA 6 leak. With speculation rampant as to what exactly the hackers known as Cyberleek may have access to, now is not the time to be downloading any files claiming to be GTA 6.
The crypto-peddling hacker group who leaked footage of GTA 6 earlier this week appear to have access to a playable version of Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive's forthcoming open world game, if recent videos are any indication.
