I suppose, in a way, I asked for this. Crouched and cowering behind a garden fence, inches away from the thrashing, cleaver-faced miscreation who’d quite comfortably win in a fight against my splintering plank of rotten wood, I can almost hear Silent Hill: Townfall whisper mocking in my ear: not too much combat now, eh?

Oh lord, Konami want yearly Silent Hill games alongside vaguely described "experiences," just don't let that be another movie

After an entire decade without a proper new Silent Hill game, in the past three years we've had two completely new games (one of which was pretty damn good if you ask me), one remake, whatever Ascension was meant to be, and the laughably bad new film. A mixed bunch, to be sure, but food is food, and Silent Hill lovers have been starving for more. We're a month away from the next game in the horror series releasing, Silent Hill: Townfall, and according to the franchise's producer, you can expect new games pretty often.

The Silent Hill series has one of those worlds that I just struggle to conceptually place in a contemporary setting. Sure, that'll partially be down to when the original four games were released, but seeing a faux iPhone in The Short Message just felt wrong to me. So I'm quite pleased by the fact that Silent Hill: Townfall is set in the '90s, replacing the games' iconic radio with a portable CRT. And in doing so, its devs were able to use that now nostalgic tech against us, so say the devs themselves.
